Sure, it absolutely sucks to fail yourself, but most of us would be lying if we say we don’t take at least a little pleasure from seeing celebrities absolutely tank in front of a wide audience every now and again.
Now, don’t get us wrong—not every fail is funny. But we’ve collected a few of the biggest that 2017 gave us, from the cringeworthy to the absolutely snicker-inducing. Here we go:
We’re not quite sure what Warren Beatty was thinking as he stared at the card for “Best Picture” at the 89th Academy Awards in L.A. on February 26th of this year. He clearly knew something was wrong, though… and looked to Faye Dunaway for assistance. She grabs the card, announces “La La Land" without missing a beat, and the rest is Oscars history.
For his part, Beatty says passing the card to Dunaway was always the plan. But regardless, let’s be clear: the real f*** up wasn’t by Beatty at all, but rather PricewaterhouseCoopers accountant Brian Cullinan, who was responsible for sealing the cards in the correct envelopes.
Here’s a vid of awesome celeb reactions to the catastrophe:
Love him or hate him, Charles Barkley is never afraid to be himself and speak his mind. Always willing to give a strong, uncompromising opinion, that’s exactly what he did when the Golden State Warriors squared off against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 16.
Chuck said: “They’re not gonna beat the Golden State Warriors tonight, and they’re not gonna hold the Golden State Warriors to 94 points,. I promise you that.” He also called Boston’s schedule to that point “a bunch of homecoming games.”
However, after doubling down at half with the Celtics only down 5 (“This team right here, they put zero fear in anyone’s heart”), Boston came back in the 2nd and ended up taking the W, 92-88.
The fallout for Barkley wasn’t actually all that bad given the notoriety of the Inside the NBA crew:
Prepare to be haunted for the rest of your life.
Turning now to another Inside the NBA crew member, former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal grossed out all of America back in May when we got a look at his feet. Even his son was suitably repulsed:
“Whoever saw my dads toes on TV, I'm sorry 😭😭😭” — Shareef O'Neal (@cynreef)
We’ll let the video do the talking here, but damn, Shaq, give those toes some TLC!
As disgusting as Shaq’s feet are, this is worse.
On June 29, the younger members of the Kardashian clan, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, posted a new set of “Vintage T-Shirts” on their “KENDALL + KYLIE” clothing site. The problem? Well, just about everything.
The “iconic duo” and their designers lazily—and disgracefully—threw old Instagram screens of themselves up on the faces of legendary musicians such as Biggie and Tupac, and then sold the distressed tees for an outrageous $125 a pop.
As you can imagine, Twitter had a field day and the offensive products were swiftly taken down:
Not to be outdone by the legend of one of her own backup dancers, Katy Perry took the opportunity presented by a May, 2017 Saturday Night Live performance to debut her own awkward-as-hell dancing.
Alongside Migos during a performance of “Bon Appétit,” Katy just started, well, doing stuff. No one quite knows what she was going for, but there’s both running commentary:
And hilarious slow-mo renditions:
Way to make the fail list for 2017, Katy! You go, girl.
